Bruce Spizer: Writing About The Beatles

Posted: Updated:

Bruce Spizer has written eight books about The Beatles, including his latest one "The Beatles Are Coming". He talks about the band's arrival in America and everything that happened after that. He also wanted to set the record straight about the Fab Four.

"I wanted to correct a lot of the myths out there that were wrong and along the way...(learned) a lot of fascinating things. If I had done the book as a a work of fiction, people would have laughed and said 'nah, nothing like that could happen'".

For example?

"You had Capitol records, a major record company...turn down the group four times where they wouldn't release their records in the States.

Bruce also deconstructs myths like this one...

"One of the things was Paul's always fond of saying The Beatles weren't going to come to America until they had a number one hit, and the problem with that was their manage booked them in mid- November to be on The Ed Sullivan Show. At the time they had nowhere near a number one hit. but if you listen to what Paul says carefully, what he says is we didn't want to be on tour, second on the bill to Frankie Avalon or Bobby Vinton. So what Paul was really saying was we wouldn't tour America until we had a number one hit."

Bottom line, Bruce says Paul, George, Ringo, and John will be around long after we're gone.

"50 years from now people will still be talking about The Beatles the way you talk about Mozart, Beethoven...the truly great music is in fact timeless."

Bruce will be talking about The Beatles Tuesday night at The Grammy Museum.

Since the time Yasiel Puig came to the Dodgers, there have been rumors about how he was able to defect from Cuba. Some of the rumors seemed to wild to believe, but apparently many of them are true.
