Who has the happiest cell phone customers?

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The lure for deciding on a cell phone provider used to be about the device - who had the coolest and best technology.

However, according to new research, that's not the main attraction any longer. Today, the reason to choose one cell phone provider over another is a little more old-fashioned -- it's cost.

Whose price is right? A research group took at a look at the four big carriers: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. The researchers considered single and family plans, and even added in taxes and fees.

Here's how they say they stack up: Verizon has the most expensive average monthly bill of $148. But, in the neighborhood is Sprint at $144 and AT&T with $141. T-Mobile, according to this study, is quite a bit lower at $120 a month, on average.

Even though AT&T does not offer the best price, according to this anyway, the research indicates that the carrier is better at keeping its customers happy. Only 11 percent of AT&T's customers the last quarter left and went to another carrier. Compare that to Sprint, who seems to have the unhappiest customers. Thiry-one percent of them showed it by switching carriers.

In the end - what does this matter to you? Well the cell phone market is considered pretty saturated so marketers are keeping a closer eye on why its customers switch. Wireless experts who study the industry say the hope is that they'll make more of an effort to keep their customers happy with better prices and better service.
