Two men are dead after a 1-vehicle rollover in Renville County.
At approximately 3:15 Friday afternoon the vehicle driven by 39-year old Jose Prado-Marquez of Willmar encountered a patch of snow and ice and entered the ditch, rolling multiple times. The two were identified as 31-year old Jose Deleon and 23-year old Julio Giron, both of Willmar. Neither of the men were wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
"This is another tragic example of the fact that seatbelts save lives," Sheriff Scott Hable said. "We need to learn from this."
Sheriff Hable cited road conditions, prevailing winds at the time and perhaps speed as reasons for the deadly crash which occurred on Renville County Road 16 approximately 11 miles northwest of Hector, Minnesota.
"We also think there was one specific contributor to the result of the crash," Sheriff Hable said. "They were not wearing seatbelts."
According to Sheriff Hable, the roads were in good winter driving conditions at the time of the accident with isolated snow and ice covered areas.
