Job/Position Title: Technical Operations Manager

Reports To: VP of Engineering

Position Summary: Highly-skilled technically savvy broadcast engineer with good communication and people skills to fill this critical position within our broadcast operations.

Essential Functions

· Supervise installation, maintenance and repair of all technical equipment

· Must be familiar with information systems infrastructure relating to broadcast technical systems

· Must have working knowledge the latest operating systems software, including server and desktop operating systems

· Establish priorities for maintenance engineers and follow-up to ensure that all projects are completed in a timely manner and on budget

· Develop and perform a preventative maintenance schedule and safety inspections to reduce equipment failure or accidents

· Partner with vendors to best service the needs of the station and troubleshoot issues as needed

· Facilitate continuing education on new technologies with technical and operations staff

· Maximize department operational efficiency by cross-training technicians

· Work with VP of Engineering to assist with equipment purchasing decisions

· Keep maintenance logs and databases, oversee problem resolution and identify recurring issues

· Be familiar with IBEW 292 Collective Bargaining Agreement and manage employees accordingly

· Ascertain and satisfy other departments’ needs for service

· Familiar with network routing and IP addressing

· Author and submit accurate and timely business justifications for Capital Project Requests

· Oversee our mission critical systems, including testing back-up systems, training employees on handling such situations in order to ensure no loss of air time

· Have expert knowledge regarding equipment, technology, and systems and be able to step in an assist in emergency situations

· Assist in developing and implementing Capital and Operating budgets

· Stay current with emerging technologies and industry changes

· Supervise and maintain support systems such as emergency power generation and switching systems, UPS and power distribution devices

· Familiar with transmitter operations and maintenance procedures and oversee transmitter supervisors

· Document and maintain strict FCC, EAS and OSHA regulation compliance

· Manage employee issues, with the assistance of the VP of Engineering, hiring, discipline, employee meetings and personnel actions

· Must be available to work during breaking news situations, severe weather, new system integrations and updates, and provide on-call services 24-7

· Back-up other employees in Engineering as needed

· Other duties as assigned by the VP of Engineering

· Display and maintain professional appearance, based on station standards, and professional demeanor

· Regularly receive and distribute and information and instructions via telephone, email , memos and staff meetings, to station personnel or outside vendors / clients

Educational Requirements:

Associates Degree in Electronics or Equivalent College Degree

Experience Requirements:

15 Years in Broadcast Television with a minimum of 5 years of Technical Supervisory Management Experience

Strong IT networking experience and experience with operating systems software including server and desktop

Must have a working knowledge of Avid software packages, AutoCAD LT, Microsoft Office, Editing software, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro/Avid Edit, automated production systems, master control systems, and Motion Graphics

Physical Requirements:

Stand, sit, read a computer terminal, lift up to 50 lbs., navigate interoffice travel for varied distances during most of working shift.

Work Schedule:

5 days a week, full time hour shifts, weekends and holidays required for special events

Schedule may change based on business needs

On-call 24-7 for technical emergencies
