Reports to: Director of Engineering

Position summary: We are looking for a highly-skilled technically savvy broadcast engineer to fill this position that is critical to our broadcast operations.

Essential Functions

- Supervise installation, maintenance and repair of all technical equipment

- Establish priorities for maintenance engineers and follow-up to ensure that all projects are completed in a timely manner and on budget

- Develop and perform a preventative maintenance schedule and safety inspections to reduce equipment failure or accidents

- Partner with vendors to best service the needs of the station and troubleshoot issues as needed

- Facilitate ongoing continuing education on new technologies and train the technical staff on new systems and operations

- Maximize department operational efficiency by cross-training technicians

- Work with VP of Engineering and Director of Engineering to assist with equipment purchasing decisions

- Must be familiar with information systems infrastructure relating to broadcast technical systems

- Maintain repair and maintenance logs and databases, oversee problem resolution and identify recurring issues

- Be familiar with IBEW 292 Collective Bargaining Agreement and manage employees accordingly

- Ascertain and satisfy other departments' needs for service

- Assist in developing and implementing Capital and Operating budgets

- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry changes

- Supervise and maintain support systems such as emergency power generation and switching systems, UPS and power distribution devices

- Oversee transmitter supervisors and overall transmitter operations & maintenance

- Document and maintain strict FCC, EAS and OSHA regulation compliance

- Manage employee issues, with the assistance of the VP of Engineering and Dir. of Engineering, hiring, discipline, employee meetings and personnel actions

- Must be available to work during breaking news situations, severe weather, new system integrations and updates, and provide on-call services 24-7

- Back-up Director of Engineering and other employees in Engineering as needed

- Other duties as assigned by the VP of Engineering

- Display and maintain professional appearance, based on station standards, and professional demeanor

- Regularly receive and distribute and information and instruction via telephone, email and memo, and staff meetings, to station personnel or outside clients

- Must be able to act with urgency, immediacy and efficiency and make situation appropriate decisions

- Ability to meet deadlines and be resourceful to solve technical issues

- Able to work with other departments' needs and schedules to accomplish goals

- Must be resourceful and proactive in overall problem solving

- Must possess excellent technical skills and be able to troubleshoot difficult technical issues

- Ability to effectively multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment

- Self-directed and self-motivated

- Must have excellent customer service skills to best service other department's needs, especially news

- Ability to consistently prioritize and adhere to deadlines

- Ability to work amid distractions and handle stress appropriately

- Ability to work with different personalities and take constructive criticism well

- Must demonstrate situational flexibility and adaptability

- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publishers, Access) and After Effects

- Ability to promptly transition among and between job assignments, projects, and functions

- Excellent personnel management skills

Educational Requirements:

2 years' experience in Broadcast related field Required

College Degree Preferred

Experience Requirements:

5-7 years of broadcast television experience in a technical role

Strong IT networking experience.

Must have a working knowledge of Avid software packages, AutoCAD LT, Microsoft Office, Editing software, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro/Avid Edit, and Motion Graphics

Physical Requirements:

Stand, sit, read a computer terminal, lift up to 50 lbs., navigate interoffice travel for varied distances during most of working shift.

Work Schedule:

5 days a week, full time hour shifts, weekends and holidays required for special events

Schedule may change based on business needs

On-call 24-7 for technical emergencies
