Spring Fever Relief and Cold Weather Tips

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

With the freezing temperatures hanging around Atlanta, it is hard to fight the warm, sunny spring fever forming. To help find relief, brighten up your home with houseplants, vibrantly-colored pots, garden accents and more!

Houseplants

  • Come in nearly every size, shape and color
  • Very easy to grow since your house's climate is pretty consistent
  • Choose a new, brightly-glazed pot and give a new fresh look to your houseplant
  • Turn plants halfway so they do not grow towards the light
  • Feed your houseplants with Bonide Liquid Plant Food on cold days

Add Color to Your Garden

  • Brighten up your garden and container gardens with fun, colorful garden accents
  1. Viz Garden Art
  2. Handblown glass that is powered with a solar LED light
  3. It illuminates at dusk
  • Gazing Balls
  1. Place brightly colored gazing balls in the garden for a pop of color
  2. Choose from reflective or mosaic gazing balls
  • Patio Toss Pillows
  1. While you might not be using your patio furniture it can still look good when you look out the window at your patio
  2. Brightly colored toss pillows are an easy way to give your patio set a new look

Cold Weather Tips

  • Mulch – apply 2-3 inch layer
  1. Helps insulate the ground and will give your garden a fresh look
  • Move containers inside or close to your home for protection
  • Group containers close together if left outside
  • Use frost cloth
  1. Apply in the evening and take off in the morning when the sun comes up
  2. Leaving a frost cloth on plants during the day can keep them too warm and burn the plants
  • Make sure all plants have been watered well before freeze
  • Water ornamental cabbage and pansies after a hard freeze to help rehydrate their wilted leaves

Prune

  • Now is the time to prune overgrown trees and shrubs
  • Do not prune spring flowering trees and shrubs like dogwoods, flowering cherries and azaleas. Wait until after they bloom to prune them
