Miranda Otto: LA Is Like A Major Character

Posted: Updated:

Miranda Otto plays the ex wife of Greg Kinnear in the new FOX show "Rake". When we first see her on the show, Otto appears to be Kinnear's therapist until she mentions their marriage...then slaps him. Steve and Lisa asked Miranda how it felt to hit an Oscar nominee.

"The funny thing is when we're shooting I have to slap him on the face and we shot it so many times that I cracked him on the face so many times so hard, in the end he kept putting his hand up to try and stop me!"

"Rake" was originally a series in Australia and was a big hit. Steve pointed out Miranda had a connection to that version: she and the actor playing the Kinnear role were once a couple.

"Yeah, we were, a long time ago...it's kinda ancient history but yeah we were."

Otto talks Kinnear's character is always chasing what he wants and never thinks about the consequences. Does that make him a loser, as Steve and Lisa describe him?

"He's just kinda just constantly following his desires you know, like that's sorta what the term "rake" means, it's a man that sorta follows his pleasure in life but he constantly has to kinda pay for it."

Rake premieres Thursday night at 9 on FOX.
