Luc Robitaille: It's Hockey, You're Never Careful

Los Angeles, CA -

Good thing Luc Robitaille is still in shape! Because of LA traffic, the hockey great showed up late but that didn't stop him from running onto the set as cameras rolled. He arrived and was greeted by Steve, Lisa, and Bailey (the Kings mascot). Once he was situated, he talked to Steve and Lisa about Saturday night's Ducks-Kings outdoor hockey game at Dodger Stadium and reassured doubters that the ice will not melt in the warm California sun.

"The guys at the NHL, they're really good. They have this new system obviously that's the reason we can do it now...it's pretty neat when you're someone that skates and you're skating at Dodger Stadium."

Steve asked him what it was for a guy who made his career on skates to lace up somewhere he's never skated before.

"You need to skate a few times to kinda break it in. When you get on there's nothing, there's no, like every skate blade kinda cuts the ice and it turns even more white but at first it's got that little grayish color that there's nothing, It's pretty neat."

When asked if the players will be careful in case the ice isn't 100 percent, Luc answered like a player.

"It's hockey, you're never careful!"

Fun Facts About Luc Robitaille: (Source: Wikipedia)

1) He is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player, and currently serves as President of business operations for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League.

2) During his 19-season National Hockey League (NHL) career, Robitaille won the Stanley Cup in 2001–02 with the Detroit Red Wings, and played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers, but is most known for his fourteen seasons, over three different stints, with the Kings. He served as Kings team captain during the 1992–93 season (while Wayne Gretzky was injured) and for the final two games of the 2005–06 season. Robitaille retired after the 2005–06 season as the highest-scoring left winger in NHL history and the holder of several Kings franchise records, along with numerous Kings playoff records.

3) Robitaille was drafted by the Kings in the ninth round (171st overall) of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Many hockey experts expected Robitaille to be drafted late in the draft due to his poor skating ability. Robitaille himself has stated that he had only had contact with one NHL team during his junior career - the Kings. He happened to be attending the '84 draft (in the stands), and later introduced himself to first year Kings general manager Rogie Vachon.

4) Robitaille and former teammate Dave Taylor are the lowest NHL draft picks to have recorded 1,000 career points. During the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, the Kings drafted future major league baseball player Tom Glavine in the fourth round, over one hundred spots ahead of Robitaille.

The Kings take on the Ducks at Dodger Stadium this Saturday night.
