Everyone's favorite cookies are back! Thin mints, Samoas, Tag-a-longs and many other Girl Scout favorites are back on sale, and this year there's a cool new way you can order near you.
Angela Foster of the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana and Girl Scout Allyson Rodriguez joined Good Day Chicago Wednesday morning to explain what we can look forward to this year.
Did you know download an app to see where the nearest seller is? While traditional pre-order sales will be available through Jan. 22, on-site cookie "booth" sales will begin in February and continue through March.
If you visit the official Girl Scouts website, you can download the app and find a booth near you. Some Girl Scouts will also be able to accept customers' credit cards at the booths, with a special attachment on thier smart phones.
The girls can also develop social media campaigns and sell cookies online via the Cookie Club. They're learning how to utilize many different tools and avenues to accomplish thier goals.
As much as everyone loves the cookies, there is a lesson to be learned as the girls go through the sales process. The organization says scouts from the age of 5-17 get to exercise their skills on goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. They will carry these skill sets with them as they become a working part of society.
The girls also learn the importance of working on a team, especially when the goal is to serve their community and "'do good' with the money they raise through cookie profits."
