Woman billed $25,000 for outpatient skin treatment
Fox 9 medical expert Dr. Archelle Georgiou explains a New York Times article that tells the story of a woman who was billed over $25,000 for a 1-hour outpatient skin cancer removal treatment.
A woman entered an Arkansas dermatologist office with a tiny white spot on her cheek -- it was determined cancerous, and her outpatient procedure that involved a dermatologist, an anesthesiologist and an ophthalmologist ultimately tallied bills surmounting $25,000.
The reason the bills were so large was because the procedure involved 3 doctors and it was done at a hospital, plus, the doctors hail from specialties among the highest compensated in medicine, the New York Times reports.
