3 shot near Hudson, Wis. liquor store

Posted: Updated:

Police in Hudson, Wis. are investigating a triple shooting that took place Sunday morning near a liquor store popular among Minnesotans looking to buy alcohol on Sundays.

Police confirmed 2 men and 1 woman were shot around 9:30 a.m. All were taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, and police said at least two of the victims sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Abdirahman Abdirzak Hersi, 23, of Minneapolis and Mohamed Deballa Hussein, 21, of Savage, Minn. have both been released from the hospital. The woman injured in the shooting -- 28-year-old Fartun Ibrahim Aidid of Hopkins, Minn. -- remained hospitalized Monday.

Police are focusing their investigation at Spirit Seller Liquors, a store located in a busy strip mall popular among Sunday alcohol shoppers.

"I'm not used to the whole shooting thing. It doesn't usually happen in Hudson," Kristina Kramer said.

Pete Williamson heard the shots while working the cash register at a gas station across the street.

"Pop, pop, pop -- right in a row," he recalled. "I looked over there and saw one of the guys go to the liquor store and lean on the wall like he'd been shot."

Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen confirmed police took 2 suspects into custody at the SpringHill Suites Marriott hotel in Bloomington, Minn. Officials say the suspects were seen fleeing the shooting in a Cadillac.
Eagan police later spotted the suspect vehicle and followed it to the hotel. After the arrests, the Cadillac was towed away.

Jensen also confirmed that some individuals involved in the shooting are from Minnesota and were possibly in Hudson to purchase liquor since it is illegal to do so in Minnesota on Sundays.

"This is unusual for us," Jensen said. "We don't have shootings -- very rare for us. It's a big deal."

Jensen added that several law enforcement agencies are collaborating to determine a motive for the shooting and whether others may be involved. Jensen told Fox 9 News the confrontation might have boiled over from within the Somali-American community.

Criminal charges are expected to be filed Tuesday.
