(WJBK) -

William Goad, 37, has been charged with murder after a man was found stabbed to death Monday inside his Ferndale apartment. Police say Goad also stole the victim's vehicle and other belongings.

Goad, known as "Wild Bill", spent several years in prison for a 2004 crime spree, weapons charges, home invasion and breaking and entering. He was released in 2011. Then in June of 2013 he was found sleeping in a car he tried to steal from a 91-year-old woman in Hazel Park. He was sentenced to 305 days in jail and was ordered to a residential treatment program after release. Instead, he spent less than seven months in jail.

Goad had just been released from the Oakland Co. Jail on Jan. 10. He was homeless and, by January 12, had befriended the 67-year-old, mentally impaired victim. The victim appeared to have been trying to help Goad.

After it's alleged he killed the victim and stole his car, he ditched the victim's car, stole a truck in Hazel Park on Tuesday and lead police on a chase. He was arrested Wednesday near the area of Eight Mile Road and I-75, where is was known to beg for money. Police also say he's addicted to crack cocaine.

Goad was officially charged with Homicide-Open Murder, Unlawfully Driving Away Motor Vehicle and Larceny In A Building. He was denied bond. He is due back in court Jan. 23.
