PTA to hold summit encouraging men to join

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Tomorrow, the Georgia PTA is holding a male summit to encourage male involvement.

Folks can come out and learn how to get involved in their kid's schools at the summit which will be held at Towers High School in DeKalb County.

Keith Lamar Sr., Regional Director of the Georgia PTA, is concerned that the organization is dominated by women. Lamar says some men think the PTA is a "women's club" and that discourages them from joining.

Educators, law enforcement officials, elected officials and clergy will be on hand to talk about the importance of getting men involved in schools.

"We need them in the hallways, we need them in the cafeterias, we need them to get certified as volunteers to be on the buses," Lamar said.

"I want them to walk away with a sense of "WOW" if I don't get involved in my child's life, I'm missing something."

Towers High School is located at 3913 Brookcrest Circle in Decatur.
