AR-15 Left In Rented Car

Posted: Updated:

The wife of Miami Dolphins' quarterback Ryan Tannehill turned in a rental car and left something important inside, a semi-automatic rifle to be exact.

Lauren Tannehill turned in her rental car on January 4th, just two hours after picking it up. The next rental customer to use the car discovered an AR-15!

"It was disturbing to find. I'm just glad that someone that had a little kid in the car … didn't find it or, you know, some criminal that said, ‘oh great a gun, now I can go do something with it.'" Said Judith Fleissig, the daughter of the customer.

Police agree.

"This is certainly the kind of item you don't want to forget anywhere, but forgetting isn't a crime," said Sheriff Keyla Concepcion.

So why would she have a gun? The owner of the National Armory explains one fact about the AR-15 that could make it an attractive self-defense weapon.

"It's very easy to shoot. It's very comfortable to shoot. It doesn't have a large kick like a lot of other guns do. So … a lot of women actually do buy these and love shooting these guns," said Justin Lampert.

The rifle was in its case and handed over to the police. It's unclear whether the Tannehills were able to get back their gun.
