Posted: Updated:
FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (KMSP) -

The St. Anthony Police Department announced Wednesday that the crime alert issued a day earlier after a jogger reported being grabbed from behind will be canceled as the man involved was apparently joking.

In a press release, the department thanked those who assisted in sharing the alert with the public, but said investigators no longer believe there was any criminal intent in the incident.

The initial report was filed by a woman who was jogging near West Larpenteur and Snelling avenues in Falcon Heights at about 7:30 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind by a man she did not recognize. Now, police say that man was an acquaintance who had not seen the victim in several months and was trying to play a joke on her by scaring her.

The woman was able to fight off the man, whom she did not recognize at the time, according to police. He fled on foot.

No additional information was released.
