What is a Blizzard? Its more than a delicious ice cream treat, its actually a way of life for most of us here in the Upper Midwest.
It's been one crazy winter so far and we still have several more months before there is any hope of spring. The strong winds and cold temperatures have been quite common lately. You may have also noticed several times this season that we have seen blizzard warning issued, especially for the western half of Minnesota.
A blizzard is when visibilities are reduced by a combination of snow and wind. In fact, there does not even have to be snow falling for blizzard conditions to exist. Here in Minnesota, there is plenty of snow on the ground just waiting to be stirred up by a blast from old Man Winter.
Below are the watches, warnings and advisories issued for this Thursday. You can see a combination of winter weather that is expected.
A map with this many colors can be confusing, so here is a breakdown of what you can expect as we wrap up another work week this winter. You notice that a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY covers most of the metro. A Winter Weather Advisory is issued for a combination of many factors, such as snow, blowing snow, dangerous wind chills, mix precipitation, or a combination of any the above.
