Posted: Updated:

When searching for the proper shoe, it's not just style that it's important. Arch, width and use of shoe also need to be taken into consideration.

Fox 9 Fitness Expert Ali Holman from CoreCamper.com shows you her top picks. Ali brought 5 types of shoes from Sheels, http://www.Scheels.com.

High Arch:

Asics Nimbus - for a neutral runner, medium to high arch. Maximum cushion in the forefoot and heel. (shown in studio)

Nike Air Max 2013: originally intended for the gym, but this light and flexible shoe works well on a decent run as well. A mesh inner sleeve wraps around the foot for a breathable fit and feel, supplying ventilation where you need it most. It may not offer any medial support, but the Air-equipped midsole comforts runners with higher arches just the same.

Low Arch:

-Asics 2000 - Stability shoe. Duo-max cushion for support for a runner who pronates more aggressively.

-New Balance 860v3

Best Suited For: Overpronators seeking stability.

Key Feature: ABZORB crash pad, T-Beam TUP shank

Weighing in a 9.4 oz, this stability sneaker is lighter than most for the amount of support you're getting underfoot. The 12 mm drop and Nufoam application makes for a durable investment, plus New Balance knows how to construct a gracious toe box for a comfortable fit

Wide:

Brooks Adrenaline - both are stability based shoes similar to Asics 2000 series

Saucony Guide

Asics GEL-Kayano 19

High Stability:

An icon on the running shoe scene, the Kayano is marked by a relatively wide forefoot design. Featuring the utmost in both support and cushioning, this isn't the lightest shoe, but it'll be both protective and durable over many miles.

Narrow (narrower width but not necessarily needing a narrow specific)

Asics Cumulus - neutral cushion shoe. a step below the Nimubs in cushion and price.

Nike Pegasus - longest running neutral shoe for Nike (30 years). Very similar to Cumulus/Nimbus.

Sketchers GOrun Meb Speed

Lightweight:

Built for America's top marathoner, Meb Keflezghi, these racing flats are inherently narrow. Featuring a 4mm heel-to-toe drop and weighing just 5.8 ounces, the GoRun Speed are fast and nimble—perfect for racing and speed workouts.

Outdoor:

Keen Targhee II -

Merrill Siren - both are very durable/waterproof light hikers.

North Face Ultra Trail ($110)

Low-riding, breathable trail runner with a decent run feel. The shoe includes TNF's recently introduced Cradle Guide support system and extends the brand's FlashDry technology throughout the entire upper for the first time to go along with a lightweight, breathable upper. The Vibram outsole consists of a tight array of tiny lugs that provide a great deal of ground contact and supplement cushioning.
