A Minneapolis man is facing felony criminal sexual conduct charges after he allegedly exposed his genitals inside Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America on Sunday.
Bloomington police were called to the mall after receiving a report that a man was exposing his private parts near the restroom.
A witness pointed police to Marcus Gregory Nelson, and officers who met with him found the zipper of his jeans was open when they confronted him in the parking ramp and tried to detain him.
Police say Nelson "tensed up" and prevented an officer from handcuffing him. The criminal complaint explains that officers, along with Mall of America security personnel, forced Nelson's hands behind his back and pushed him against the wall to cuff him.
In a post-Miranda statement, Nelson admitted he had pulled his penis out of his pants through the zipper while in Nickelodeon Universe. Additionally, Nelson said he walked around the mall with his genitals exposed for about 20 seconds, and had left the bathroom that way.
Investigators say Nelson acknowledged that the mall was busy and that he knew a large number of children would be present.
Nelson has 11 prior convictions related to indecent exposure, including one for fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct dating to Aug. 26, 2009, when he exposed himself to a 6-year-old at the Mall of America.
