Commuters are facing delays on the North Jersey Coast Line after a train struck and killed a man.

NJ Transit spokesman William Smith says the train was headed for New York City when it hit the man west of the Hazlet Station just before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The 25 passengers aboard the train were taken by bus to the Matawan-Aberdeen Station and placed on another train.

The incident has forced the suspension of service on the North Jersey Coast Line in both directions. Trains were rolling again shortly after 7 a.m. with delays of up to 15 minutes.

The Northeast Corridor line is experiencing delays of up to 15 minutes, eastbound.

NJ Transit is cross-honoring tickets on its buses.

The 82-year-old carousel on the Seaside Heights boardwalk survived Superstorm Sandy and a devastating fire, but it may not survive changing economics. The company that owns the carousel is selling it to make room for new attractions. An auction is planned for fall, with the hope that a buyer will take the entire ride and prevent it from being broken up and sold off piecemeal.
