No Pants Subway Ride Day - KMSP-TV

No Pants Subway Ride Day

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of people worldwide went on the famous, or infamous 'No Pants Subway Ride,' with just a few qualifications… Be willing to drop your pants and keep a straight face about it.

In NYC, it started with a fully clothed crowd in Foley square and several other locations around town.

But soon the enthusiastic group dispersed, heading underground and going under cover so to speak, as one by one they undid buttons and snaps and dropped their pants.

Some strap-hangers went un-fazed...but others got a little freaked out about it as the annual subway ride unfolded in 60 cities around the world..

The stripped down event drew young and old including a 71 year old participant who's an old pro.

And the fun didn't stop on the subways. Many headed to an after party where the dance floor promises to be full of pant-less revelers.

The event was started by theater group Improv Everywhere 13 years ago in New York City, according to the Los Angeles Times, to celebrate peoples’ curiosity and to spread laughter.

Marc Littman, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, said pant-less riders who are otherwise fully clothed will not be cited for indecent exposure.

"If you're walking around naked, that's a different story,” he said.
