Coffee-Toss Assault Suspect Identified, Cops Say

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police say they're looking for the suspect, now identified as William Houser, behind a coffee-toss assault on a donut shop clerk that was caught on camera.

It happened Wednesday, January 8th, at 1 p.m. inside the Dunkin' Donuts located on the 4700 block of North Broad Street at Wyoming Avenue. Houser is now wanted on aggravated assault charges.

According to Northwest Detectives, Houser walked in and attempted to pay for a medium coffee with an expired cell phone coupon.

When the clerk told him the coupon was invalid, Houser became irate, and a verbal exchange took place.

In the end, police say that he paid for the coffee but then surveillance shows him tossing the entire scalding-hot cup into the female clerk's face. He then fled, according to police.

The Dunkin' Donuts clerk says she suffered minor burns but did not seek medical attention. She says her scars are mental, not physical.

Police say Houser may frequent the area of 4710 Old York Road. He's described as a black male, 36 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall. He lives on the 3400 block of North Carlisle Street, say authorities.

If you see this suspect, police stress to not approach him; instead, contact 911 immediately. To submit a tip via telephone, dial 215.686.TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847.
