Busted pipes damage Norcross church

Posted: Updated:
NORCROSS, Ga. -

A tiny Norcross church didn't let major water damage stop them from holding services on Wednesday.

Freezing temperatures are thought to be the cause of two broken water pipes that heavily damaged Ephese Seventh-day Adventist Church. Church treasurer Lamartine Porcena discovered the damage early Wednesday.

Porcena said he found the water – ankle-deep in some places – in many parts of the church's building. One busted pipe was in the children's playroom while the other was in a conference room. Both rooms were damaged along with a kitchen and a computer learning center, which is set aside for the youth of the primarily Haitian congregation.

The church was established in 2010 before the Haitian earthquake which killed thousands of their fellow countrymen.

"This is bad but nothing comparing to what happened in Haiti," said church clerk Myriam Fonfrose.

While the water damage is extensive, church members said it was not catastrophic.

"We survive. That's what we do. And we have God on our side," said Porcena.

The damage will cost upwards of $20,000, church members said. For information on how to help, visit: http://ephesehaitiansda.org/
