Police Officers manning the grill today cooking up burgers for a barbeque to help benefit the families of Phoenix Police Officer Scott Sefranka and MCSO Volunteer Posse member Phillip Griggs, both shot following a armed robbery on New Year's Eve.
"It's been a phenomenal turnout, absolutely tremendous support from the community" said Joe Clure, President of the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association.
Burger after burger flipping off the grill as dollar after dollar is tossed into the donation box.
"I'm here because I support the Police Department, I support the Sheriff's Department. They 're some of the best hard working people that we've got in this community and they're not supported as much as they need to be" said Harold Richards.
So many people chowing down it even took the officers by surprise.
"We've already had to go back and buy more food" said Clure.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was at the benefit and said "You can see by the turn out that they have a lot of support, the families do, to help the families."
"It's very important specifically for the posse man because he's a volunteer. He works for a living and obviously now he's out of work so his family is clearly in need of financial support" said Clure.
Sheriff Arpaio said that the posseman is still recovering. "Still critical not out of the water, that's for sure."
The news today more promising, Officer Sefranka he is no longer listed in critical condition.
"I do know that Officer Sefranka is doing much better and hopefully he'll be back to full duty here in no time".
The total amount raised today won't be know until later tonight but by this afternoon an estimated 500 people had contributed to the Officer and Grigg's families.
"It's tremendous the amount of public support that Arizona law enforcement has, particularly here in the valley. We're very very appreciative and grateful for that. It's truly a blessing" said Clure.
If you want to support the families of Officer Sefranka and Phillip Griggs the barbeque is now serving dinner until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening or you can send a contribution to the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association.
