Broken water main causes icy geyser in Dunwoody

DUNWOODY, Ga. -

A broken water main sent a freezing stream of water high into the air in Dunwoody early Wednesday.

Tilly Mill Road was closed where ice was building on nearby power lines, trees and surfaces.

At daybreak, officials at the Dunwoody campus of Georgia Perimeter College realized they didn't have water on registration and orientation day. They asked non-essential personnel to leave for the day because of the water outage, according to Dean Frank Nash.

The water main break also left Dunwoody Elementary school with dry faucets.

DeKalb School officials evacuated more than 900 students by bus to Dunwoody High School.

Residents within a quarter of a mile of the break also lost water during the repair.

Around 1 p.m., the valve was repaired, Tilly Mill Road was reopened.
