GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an instructor with the Army Junior ROTC program at Gilbert's Highland High School is accused of sexual conduct with a student.

Gilbert police say 41-year-old Joseph Stephenson was taken into custody Monday and booked into the downtown Phoenix jail.

He's being held on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor.

Police say Stephenson allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student, but didn't release any information on when it reportedly occurred. Authorities were notified when the victim told her sister about the relationship who reported it to her parents and the police.

It wasn't immediately clear Tuesday how long Stephenson has been a Reserve Officer Training Corps program instructor at the school or if he has a lawyer yet for his case. He has been with the school since August of 2013.

A spokesperson with the district said that parents were notified via a letter sent home that said "The school and district are cooperating fully with police and will also conduct an internal investigation into the allegations."
