ATLANTA (AP) - It's shaping up to be a major election year in Georgia.

All statewide elected officials, including Republican Gov. Nathan Deal, will be up for re-election. There also will be a hotly contested race for Georgia's open U.S. Senate seat, with Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss set to retire at the end of the year. And all 56 state senators and 180 state representatives will be on the ballot.

While the general election isn't until November, there will be key primaries to keep an eye on, and those will likely be held early in the year. That means state lawmakers gathering in Atlanta this month for the legislative session will have an extra incentive to move quickly.

Key issues will be the budget, education funding and Medicaid.
