Like I have said so many times before, if you're going to have extreme weather, why not set a few records. This week's cold spell will not only be dangerous but it could also set a few records. The cold we start enduring late this weekend will rival cold that we haven't experienced in almost 20 years. I think its safe to say that the coldest low and the coldest high temperatures are safe.
It will be possible with this cold spell to maybe break a few daily records specific to the first week in January in the Twin Cities. Below is a graphic of some of the more reachable records for this upcoming week.
Keep in mind that we changed the wind chill formula in November of 2001. The coldest wind chill to date is -87° with the old formula which translates to -67° with the new formula. So, there is that outside chance we could dip that low, but most likely not in the metro. Stay warm everyone.
We would love to see your weather photos! Email them to Photos@Fox9.com . Also I hope you will LIKE my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/#!/SteveFrazierFox9Kmsp and follow me on Twitter at @FrazierFox9 . Thanks for watching! FRAZIER
