(KMSP) -

Heavy snow and strong winds forced the Port Authority of NY and NJ to temporarily suspend flights at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Friday.

The suspension began at 6:12 a.m. ET and was lifted by 9:30 a.m. ET. Other airports in the region, including LaGuardia and Newark, remained open.

Thousands of flights have been canceled across the country, but no widespread delays or cancellations were reported at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Travelers should always check with their airline for an updated flight status.
