Decorating your home should reflect your personality, not a magazine spread. Get inspired by what you already know and bring some design resolutions in the New Year.
- What do you absolutely love to do - reflect that in your home decor. Are you a reader - put in a bookshelf, do you love to embroider - decorate with your pillows.
- Showcase your heritage. I am Norwegian, so have a table with a top that has Rosemaling on it. It sits in an obvious place in my home and is quite a conversation piece, and allows me to talk about my Norwegian heritage.
- Display an heirloom - don't put them all away in cases or cupboards. Give a family heirloom a place of honor on display. I find that it helps to keep that family alive in my home.
- Add a plant. Having something living in your home not only provides beauty, yet also is a sign that your home is a place where things flourish. There are many low-maintenance plants that don't take up a lot of room or require a lot of light.
- Take a risk on color - every year I add in Pantone's new color of the year to keep my home fresh and up-to-date.
