MESA, Ariz. -

A crook breaks into a home, making off with a family's televisions, washer, dryer and several other items, but that family doesn't care about getting their high priced electronics back -- the only thing they want returned is their father's ashes.

Shirley Burke says she felt violated when someone broke into her home last week, ransacking the house and stealing valuables and electronics, but she was devastated to find out they also took the ashes of her late husband, Doyle Sunny Burke, from an upstairs  closet.

"That's when we realized that it was gone.. of course, that means more to us than all of the other stuff that's been taken," said Shirley.

Shirley said she doesn't think the burglar knew what he was stealing because Sunny's ashes were in a nondescript box.  The only value was what was inside.

"My thought is that maybe hey just grabbed 'em and didn't know what was in it and didn't care -- all they knew is that it was heavy because it was a very heavy box," she said.

Shirley and Sunny were married 39 years.  The Korean War veteran and former Maryland police officer died in 2001.  Shirley had planned to spread his ashes in his home state of Tennessee.  Now she's asking for whoever stole them to return them to the family.

"To take them someplace public and leave them.  Maybe the police department, just leave them on the doorstep or something," said Shirley.
