Since May there have been at least 8 different fires near Heidelberg St. and Mt. Elliot. The most recent fire was last week. It's been a huge blow to the artists who've worked so hard on the project and the community that's come to care for it so much. Those who attended Saturday's event also took part in a walk for artistic freedom. It was a powerful demonstration at the third most visited destination in Detroit and one of the world's most iconic art displays.

"I've been down before and choose not to be down again," said Heidelberg Project founder Tyree Guyton. "All I can tell you as I stand here listening is I'm more determined than before to make it better and greater."

An online fundraising effort has already raised $54,000 for increased security at the Heidelberg Project. The money will help increase patrols, improve lighting and install surveillance cameras. Investigators have interviewed several people about the fires but so far there are no arrests.
