A major winter storm will pass just to our South and east on Sunday and we here in Minnesota will be clipped in the process. Snow should begin by early Sunday and periods of snow will fall all day into the overnight. Then comes the cold with temps falling and winds out of the Northwest.

Here is a look at total expected across the state. 1" to 3" of snow can be expected across the metro with more to the East. Look at the lake enhanced totals on the southern shore of Lake Superior. Northeasterly winds will beef up those totals to a half a foot or more.

The latest travel forecast has conditions farther East and Southeast a bit more hazardous. Eastern Wisconsin, from Green Bay to Milwaukee, will bear the brunt of this storm.

Stay warm everyone. Frazier

A major winter storm will move from Texas to the Northeast over the weekend. The good news is two fold. First, the storm will be too far Southeast of Minnesota to cause any significant snow and second, the storm will be this weekend, leaving the few days before Christmas with tranquil weather. As of Friday evening here is a map of the watches and warnings.  You can see white and purple boxes for winter storm watches and warnings. The orange and red boxes in Oklahoma are for an ice storm warning, and the green boxes to the east are for flood advisories and warnings.

Below are the forecast maps for Saturday and Sunday, showing rain and snow turning to more snow by Sunday. Notice the thunderstorms in the mid-south.  Strong to severe storms are expected in the Mid-South and those storms move into the Northeast on Sunday. Check out the 3rd map with the slight and moderate risk areas outlined for Saturday.

We could even see a little snow here in Minnesota on Sunday as the storm pulls in the cold air just in time for Christmas. Here is the in-house "Futurecast" model for Sunday morning.

A lot can change with this storm so stay tuned, on air and online. Frazier
