The Ramsey County Attorney's Office said it is charging two St. Paul brothers and their uncles in connection with a two-year, multi-community sex trafficking operation that involved several victims throughout Minnesota.

State history was made on Wednesday when a Ramsey County judge sentenced Antonio Dion Washington-Davis to nearly 36 years in prison for his role in his family's sex-trafficking operation.

The sentence is the longest imposed on a sex-trafficking defendant in Minnesota history, and prosecutors hope the sentence speaks to the victims of the sex trade.

"This lengthy sentence today sends an important message to all victims of the sexual exploitation and trafficking in our community. We are with you and we will not allow for the sexual exploitation and trafficking of women and girls in our community," Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said. "Our resolve to find and help victims of human trafficking grows stronger today with Judge Roseanne Nathanson's sentence."

In November, a jury found Washington-Davis guilty of the following crimes:

- 3 counts of second-degree promotion of prostitution
- 1 count of first-degree solicitation to practice prostitution
- 1 count of second-degree solicitation to practice prostitution
- 1 count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking

The judge also required Washington-Davis, 27, to register as a predatory offender after his trial in the two-year sex trafficking ring he and other members of his family were convicted of running.

Otis Washington, brother of Washington-Davis, was also found guilty after representing himself in court. He will be sentenced on Jan. 9

Both brothers, along with their uncles -- Robert James Washington and Calvin Roy Washington -- and Elizabeth Ann Alexander, were accused of prostituting multiple women and at least one 15-year-old girl from a St. Paul home.

As many as 10 women were believed to have been prostituted by the Washington family, who used 8 different e-mail addresses to place hundreds of ads on websites like Backpage.com. The family members also used at least 30 phone numbers and over 100 different credit cards associated with online ads like "$70 Late Night $special" and "Sober up with our 2 sluts."

Both brothers are accused of taking drastic measures to keep their victims under their control. In April 2011, Washington-Davis brought a victim to a hotel in Ely so she couldn't talk with her family members and so that they wouldn't know where she was.

One of the Washingtons' victims said the family routinely preyed on "young women who are mentally slow and/or vulnerable" when recruiting them for prostitution.
