Red Cross hopes Christmas Day blood donations become tradition

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA, Ga. -

During the holidays, the blood supply drops to critically low levels. This year, the American Red Cross will try something new: They will open the "Midtown Blood Donor Center" on Christmas Morning.

The Red Cross hopes this will become a local holiday tradition.

Click on the video link above to see a powerful story of how these donations changed a life.

In theory, organizers suggest: after we've opened our presents, and had nice breakfast, we'll roll up our sleeves. The Red Cross accepts walk-in donors, but they prefer you make an appointment.

Right now they have thirteen appointments still open for blood donors Christmas day,

A full roster of platelet donors is already scheduled.
