Secret Santa helps Alpharetta family

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -

An Alpharetta mother said an anonymous angel helped make her Christmas special.

Desiree Kulich has had a tough year financially, so imagine the feeling when the phone rang and K-Mart informed her that someone had paid off her $326 layaway bill.

"I felt like a big weight had been lifted off my chest," Kulich said. "It just made me happy that there are some people in the world who are so generous that they would do this for a stranger that they don't even know.

A single mother of three, including a girl born this year, Desiree went to the store in disbelief to collect the gifts for her children.

K-Mart employee Olivia Young says it happens a few dozen times each Christmas season -- strangers paying the bill for layaways that clearly have children's items.

"They're very shocked and blessed," said Young. "I had one customer and she actually had tears in her eyes because she didn't know how she was going to pay for it."

It even happened to Olivia herself a couple of years ago.

Desiree is already thinking about how to show her gratitude.

"I just want to thank that person from the bottom of my heart for helping me and my kids out this Christmas," said Kulich. "I definitely intend on paying it forward and doing something good for somebody else.

Olivia says the secret Santas almost always remain anonymous after coming to the store in person to spread their Christmas cheer.
