S. Illinois coach: Players 'bunch of mama's boys'

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Southern Illinois coach Barry Hinson lambasted his players after a loss at Murray State, calling them "uncoachable," a "bunch of mama's boys" and comparing disciplining his young team to housebreaking a puppy.

Hinson was not made available for comment Wednesday morning. He's holding a regularly scheduled news conference in the afternoon. He told ESPN.com that his only regret was calling out a player by name.

The second-year coach's comments came after a 73-65 loss Tuesday night in which his team shot 42 percent, committed 18 turnovers and was out-rebounded 40-29.

Hinson called guard Marcus Fillyaw "absolutely awful." Fillyaw was scoreless with three fouls, two turnovers and one assist in 14 minutes.

The Salukis are 2-8 after losing four straight games.
