Maple Lake schools evacuated, dismissed for 'vague threat'

Posted: Updated:
MAPLE LAKE, Minn. (KMSP) -

Superintendent Mark Redemske of Maple Lake Public Schools said both elementary and high schools were evacuated and dismissed Wednesday due to a "vague threat" written on a bathroom wall.

According to the school, it was better to be "safe than sorry" in light of other threats and incidents that have occurred in schools recently around the country. The school did not say what was specifically written on the bathroom wall.

The elementary and high school share the same campus at 200 State Highway 55 in Maple Lake.

Mark Hayes, a Maple Lake parent, said he received an automated message from the school reporting elementary students were immediately evacuated to St. Tim's Catholic Church and the high school students were taken to Holy Cross Lutheran nearby.

The nature and credibility of the threat is under investigation by the Wright County sheriff's office.
