Woodstock sergeant suspended for allegedly sending lewd texts to minor

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Many residents came to Tuesday night's City Council meeting upset that a sergeant with the Woodstock Police Department still has a job.

The McHenry County State Attorney's office looked into a state police investigation about Police Sergeant Charles Amati who allegedly sent a text message to his then girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter asking her to send "sexy pictures."

The sergeant was also accused of accessing the police database called LEADS to do a criminal background check on his girlfriend.

The investigation did not lead to any criminal charges but the Police and Fire Commission eventually handed down a punishment of 30 working days unpaid suspension. Amati is also no longer allowed to be the city's LEADS administrator.

But residents say that simply isn't punishment enough.

Woodstock's mayor says the Council will continue to look into the public's concerns and bring appropriate punishment all the way up to termination.
