FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -

Two people were killed in a small plane crash in northwest Fulton County on Tuesday night, according to the Atlanta Fire Department.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified one of the victims as Peter Mallen, 67, Atlanta. The second victim has been identified as Brittany McAuley, 23, of New York. According to the FAA, the flight departed from Fulton County Airport and was destined for New Orleans Lakefront Airport.

The Raytheon 390 Premier crashed just after 7 p.m. in the area of Thomas Road, the FAA said.

"I looked up and the plane was coming over the trees and it looked like it was starting to descend. It looked like it was headed straight towards my house," eyewitness Kevin Krapp said.

Krapp said it appeared the pilot made a deliberate turn to the left before the plane exploded in a fireball.

"He did it on purpose," Krapp said. "He banked it on purpose so he wouldn't hit any houses."

No homes were struck by the plane, fire officials said. It appeared the plane crashed into a ravine.

Crews are investigating the cause of the crash.
