Robbers targeting Southwest Side jewelry stores, pawn shops

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police issued a community alert Tuesday warning Southwest Side business owners of a series of robberies targeting pawnshops and jewelry stores.

One or two robbers enter the stores and while one displays a handgun, the other uses a blunt object to break display cases and take jewelry, according to the alert from Area Central detectives.

The robberies happened:

-about 1:25 p.m. Dec. 3 in the 2400 block of West 63rd Street;

-about 6:50 p.m. Dec. 6 in the 4300 block of South Pulaski Road;

-about 6:20 p.m. Friday in the 5300 block of South Archer Avenue;

-about 5:30 p.m. Monday in the 3900 block of West 26th Street.

The suspects are described as 20- to 30-year-old black men, between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot-3 and 150 to 200 pounds.
