“Bridgegate” Debacle Continues

Posted: Updated:
Fort Lee, New Jersey (My9NJ) - The ongoing “bridgegate” debacle has now cost two Governor Christie appointees in the Port Authority their jobs.

This all started back in September when two out of three lanes in Fort Lee leading to the George Washington Bridge were shut down for four days without any notice. While the closings were originally said to be part of a “traffic study” the Mayor of Fort Lee wasn’t buying it. So he reached out to former Port Authority official Bill Baroni stating that he thinks this was all done as political retribution by Governor Christie because he didn’t back him for reelection.

Now Democrats in New Jersey and on a national level are pointing the finger at Christie saying that this happened during his administration and he may be directly responsible. During a press conference yesterday Christie agreed to take responsibility because it happened on his watch but still refused to say if there was in fact a traffic study taking place at the time of the closures.

As a result, New Jersey Democrats have subpoenaed Port Authority records which should be released on Thursday.

Matt Arco with PolitickerNJ chimed in on this ongoing controversy. “Now that he is a national figure and speculated to run in 2016, every story about him takes a different angle now. With the national press really looking into this, the pressure is mounting and so it makes sense for him to want to say he had an hour long press conference, he answered every question that was there, isn’t this enough,” Arco said.

Arco went on to discuss how people will view this incident in the future. “I don’t know if this is competence or corruption but it’s a bi-state agency so New York has to weigh in in their own way…we can expect more that the Port Authority is launching their own investigation into the matter so there’s still more stuff that could come to light from this,” he said.

Last week President Obama signed into law the Sean David Goldman Act which authorizes the State Department to take forceful measures against a country that doesn't help to return an American child held there. Oftentimes, these cases of international child abduction occur when parents are divorced and one parent is holding a child or children from the other parent in a different country. Sadly, that is the case for Plainsboro woman Bindu Philips.

Leisure Village is a quiet adult community in Lakewood, New Jersey. It's the last place that you would expect to see a swastika carved in front of someone's home, but sadly Fred Blumberg and his partner said that is exactly what happened to them. Blumberg explained that as an older gay couple they've dealt with harassment for years.
