You could call it "gadgetitis," we're spending hours every day on our cell phones and laptops.  

Over time, that could lead to real pain in he neck says Emory Internist Dr. Sharon Horesh Bergquist. 

"Neck pain, back pain, headaches, and these are just the short-term effects. And what's really concerning is we don't' know the long term impact these mobile devices are going to have on our joints." Bergquist adds.

The problem: mobile devices are not meant to take the place of a well-designed work station. So what can you do if you can't unhook?

First, Dr. Horesh Bergquist says straighten up and pay attention to your posture. If you're holding your phone in the crook of your neck, or constantly bending forward over your laptop you could develop pain. 

-If you can, move your laptop up, so you're not straining your neck.

-Every 20 minutes or so, take a break, to stretch out and loosen up.

A good rule is the two hour rule: If you have pain for over two hours after you've done an activity, you've overdone it, experts say. Try to avoid holding your body in the same position for more than 20 minutes.

When you take a stretch break, stand up - and roll your shoulders and your neck to loosen up your muscles.
