HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut's Department of Revenue Services is suspending its debit card refund program and will issue paper checks for the rest of the year to several thousand people expecting income tax refunds.

DRS Commissioner Kevin Sullivan said Monday the program was suspended following "a limited but still serious data breach" by JPMorgan Chase & Co, which provides the cards.

JPMorgan has said personal information associated with certain debit cards may have been exposed during an attack on the bank's servers. The breach affected cardholders in multiple states, including 14,335 accounts in Connecticut. Those include prepaid debit cards issued by DRS and the Departments of Labor, Social Services and Children and Families.

Sullivan said DRS is reopening its contract with JPMorgan to seek proposals and competitive bids from other debit card vendors.
