Chicago's Most Wanted: Vidal Rodriguez

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

This week's Chicago's Most Wanted is thought to be involved in a murder that happened in May 2012 in unincorporated Palatine.

The victim, 34 year old Abel Oliva, was a maintenance worker who was working outside the apartment complex when he was shot and killed.

Witnesses heard several gun shots and later identified Vidal Rodriguez as one of the gunmen involved in the shooting. They say they spotted Rodriguez fleeing the scene.

Rodriguez was charged with first degree murder on May 16th, four days after the shooting.

Efforts were made by Sheriff's police and other local police departments to locate Rodriguez in and around Chicago, but they were unsuccessful. During the course of their search investigators learned Rodriguez had fled the area with a girl who, at the time, was 17-years-old. The two may have headed to the Carolinas.

Rodriguez had also indicated to a friend by way of a text message that he might have headed to Mexico immediately after the murder.

FBI agents now believe Rodriguez has gone to Mexico by himself.

On May 31, 2012 the FBI obtained a federal warrant charging Rodriguez with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps it find and arrest Rodriguez. Agents hope that with the holidays, as people travel to Mexico, someone might learn something about where Rodriguez is hiding and will tell police.

Here is the FBI's description of Vidal Rodriguez:

--Hispanic male

--22 years old

--5'8"

--190 pounds, medium build

--medium complexion

--sometimes goes by the names "Chi Town," Vidal Rodriguez-Gonzalez, and Juan Carillo

Vidal Rodriguez is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him or know where he is, you are asked to contact the FBI or local police.
