An 85-year-old retired butler from Ireland has spent Christmas Day alone in his London flat for the last 10 years.
This year, James Grey placed an ad in the newspaper asking for Christmas company, but only one person responded.
That one person has since canceled.
"I am used to the loneliness, but I do not want it to be the same this year," he told the Irish Post. "I think there must be quite a few lonely people around and I am on my own, so it would make sense I think if someone came here for Christmas lunch…I think the last time I saw someone on Christmas Day was when I saw my accountant about 10 years ago."
The newspaper reports Mr. Grey is one of nearly 500,000 retirees in the UK who will spend Christmas alone
