St. Paul hit-and-run victim released from hospital

Posted: Updated:

A St. Paul man who was struck by a vehicle and left to die in the middle of the street crossed another milestone in his road to recovery on Wednesday when he was discharged from the hospital.

Wade Souster broke every bone from the top of his skull to his jaw, and he also suffered a broken leg, punctured lung and traumatic brain injury. He has lost sight in his left eye permanently, but he will begin to rehab his legs next week.

Souster was struck while he was walking home near Lake Phalen in early October.

After months in the hospital, Souster will now continue his recovery in a rehab center. A benefit for him is scheduled for Monday.

No arrests have been announced in the case. Anyone with information is urged to contact St. Paul police. The Downtowner Car Wash, where Souster worked, is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
