A 62-second commercial for Pantene is getting a lot of play on YouTube. It focuses on gender stereotypes.
The ad, which has aired on TV only in the Philippines, highlights how men and women do things the same way, but the actions are viewed drastically different by others.
For example, in the ad, a man and a woman both spend time touching up in front of the mirror, but the woman is called vain, while the man is called neat.
In the video description, Pantene writes, "Pantene asks everyone to whip away the double standards that hold women back. Because when you stand strong, you shine."
More than four million people have watched it so far. Many have also tweeted positive words of praise to the hashtag #WhipIt. However, a minority of people have also expressed criticism of the ad.
A user by the name if SIKE writes, "I don't like how the video is so negatively skewed against guys. I have to say that men have labels to you know. Double standards go both ways for men and women whether its good or bad. It's just reality."
