Suspects sought in Hampton restaurant robbery

HAMPTON, Ga. -

Authorities are searching for two men who robbed a Subway restaurant in Hampton on Thursday.

According to police, two men armed with semi-automatic handguns walked into sandwich shop on Highway 3 around 8:45 p.m.  

One employee, who asked FOX 5 not to use his name, was working alone. He said that the robbers ordered him to empty the cash register. When that turned up little money, they forced the employee at gunpoint to the back of the store and demanded that he open the safe.  When the worker told the men that he didn't have the safe's code, they forced him to lie on the floor while they escaped.

"I was pretty convinced I was probably wasn't going to be walking out of there that night," the worker said.

The worker said that he felt like the gunman who made the most demands seemed like a professional.

"He really gave me the impression that this was not his first rodeo," the worker said. "This guy knew what he was doing and just had everything down to clockwork. The second guy, though, he felt more like a tagalong."

At one point during the robbery, the mask of the second gunman dropped and he walked by a surveillance camera several times.

Anyone with information on the robbers is asked to call police.
