Reward offered in home invasion, attack of elderly couple

ATLANTA -

Some community activists have offered a reward to help find the crooks that attacked an elderly couple at their southwest Atlanta home earlier this week.

Authorities said several men broke into the Lynhurst Drive home of Milton and Melba Seals early Tuesday.

Milton Seals, 80, said he feared for his life as the armed men pointed a shotgun at him. He said that the men, who police believe could be gang members, threatened to kill him and his disabled wife, Melba.

The elderly couple begged the intruders not to kill them and their 6-year-old great-grandson, who was spending the night.

"My little old grandson jumped in my arms and I was begging them, ‘Please don't hurt me, please don't hurt my grandson,'" said Milton Seals.

The retired Ford employee finally gave them $700 in cash. The thieves tried to take the flat screen TV but dropped it as they ran away.

The assault on the elderly couple has angered community activists.  On Friday, a coalition of community leaders announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

"We know that with that many people committing a crime, somebody got to talk about it, and if it takes money to motivate to come forward, so be it," Derrick Boazman said.

Milton Seals said that he and his wife have decided to move away from the house they've called home for 47 years.

"We leaving out of here as soon as we can," Milton Seals said.

The Seals have been married for 57 years. They are well known and respected in their community.
