The Martinez

1.5 oz Sapphire

¾ oz Sweet Vermouth

¼ oz Marischino Liqueur

2 dashes Orange Bitters

Combine in mixing glass

Fill with ice


Strain and pour into stemmed glass

Garnish with Expressed Orange Peel (to express an orange peel – cut sliver of peel and pinch the peel to extract orange essence over the top of the drink)

This is a hybrid cocktail between a Martini and a Manhattan, invented in San Francisco in the late 1800s, it gained popularity in the 1910s and was a prominent cocktail during Prohibition using the infamous "bath-tub gin".
