Cyber Monday sales expected biggest yet, $2B

(WJBK) -

It's the biggest day for online sales in history - Cyber Monday.

Forecast for this year's big shopping day? Double-digit growth over last year with estimates of $2 billion racked up by consumers on their computers by midnight.

Cyber Monday is starting to really compete with the kick-off to the holiday season, Black Friday. Seems shopping online is preferred to standing in line.

According to the American Express Researchers more people are likely to shop online this Cyber Monday than those who visited brick-and-mortar stores on Black Friday. Is it all good for the economy? Consumers online do tend to spend more, it's easier to point and click than manage the overall mayhem.

But overall, it's only expected to grow about 2.4%, and of course not just consumers but scammers love Cyber Monday. Buyer beware - watch out for phishing and scam emails or texts that look just like they're coming from a favorite store but ask to you verify certain personal information, especially a credit card number.

Finally if today isn't enough for you, don't fret. Many big retailers are reeling out Cyber Week for even more days for to you shop in your pajamas.
